A Play-Related Outcomes Framework

A Play Related Outcomes Framework Main Page.png

This outcomes framework is a technical resource for organisations developing or reviewing how they measure the impact of play-related provision. It sets out seven evidence-based areas of child development associated with play, explains how these were developed from the research literature, and provides a structured set of indicators that can be used to inform surveys, practitioner observation, parent or carer reporting and other data-collection tools.

The framework is designed to support consistent outcome selection and measurement rather than prescribe a single set of measures for every play intervention. Organisations should use it as a reference model, selecting the outcomes and indicators that are most relevant to the types of play they provide, the children they work with, the setting in which play takes place, and the level of exposure children have to the intervention.
