Group Mentoring Outcomes and Indicators Framework

This section contains two linked outcomes resources for evaluating group mentoring.

The first resource contains separate outcomes frameworks for school-based and community-based group mentoring. The school framework focuses on pupils, while the community framework focuses on young people participating in group mentoring delivered in informal community settings. Both set out the developmental outcomes and indicators most closely associated with group mentoring, including emotional regulation, peer relationships, belonging, engagement, decision-making, communication, identity, future motivation, and reduced harmful behaviour.

The second resource focuses on teacher and whole-school outcomes. It addresses an area that many evaluations do not measure directly: the difference group mentoring makes to classrooms as teaching environments, and to the school as a wider community. This is the ecological impact of group mentoring: how change among mentored pupils can influence classroom stability, teacher practice, peer relationships, safeguarding responses, behaviour systems, parental engagement, and wider school culture.
