  • Each survey in the toolkit is paired with its own Excel workbook, designed to help you organise and analyse the data you collect. While the surveys themselves capture young people’s views at different points in their journey, the workbooks are where that data is brought together, compared, and turned into insight.

  • The structure is the same across all workbooks. The first two tabs — Baseline and Endpoint — mirror the survey questions exactly and provide space to enter responses before and after support. This means you can track each young person’s progress over time using the same scale and language they saw in the survey. Dropdown menus are used throughout to keep data entry consistent.

  • The third tab, Analysis, brings the data together. For each survey question, you’ll see a side-by-side comparison of the number and percentage of responses at baseline and at endpoint, along with a space to note any difference and enter statistical test results if you're using them. This makes it easy to spot patterns and summarise your findings.

  • Finally, the Stat Test tab explains how to use a basic statistical test (Mann-Whitney U) to check whether any observed changes are likely to be meaningful — and gives guidance on how to interpret the results.

  • Used together, the surveys and workbooks offer a simple but robust way to track change, whether you’re looking at individual progress or summarising results across a whole service.
